A La Carte

New Foodie Web Site

Healdsburg food and wine lover Jane St. Claire has launched a new Web site, www.SavorCalifornia.com, showcasing specialty foods in California.

Initially, St. Claire has included 16 producers from Sonoma County on the site, including cheese, bread, condiment and vegetable producers.

"It's the online resource for information about specialty food products in California," St. Claire said. "We're starting with Sonoma County, and it will expand to more producers here and in other areas."

Unusual foods currently on the site include Porky's Onions of Sonoma--vegetarian sauces made from sauteed onions--and the hot chili jams from Tierra Vegetables of Windsor.

"These are the ultimate convenience foods," St. Claire said. "When you're busy and you like to eat well, it's made-to-order."

Each food producer has its own page, with a story written by St. Claire and information on how to contact them, plus recipes, serving suggestions, quotes and seasonal photographs.

St. Claire plans to expand to the Napa Valley and Mendocino and Marin Counties.
